The NUJ is the UK's principal trade union for journalists including staff and freelance photographers. From early 2008 the NUJ have adopted a policy of providing members with free legal assistance regarding copyright infringement.
EPUK runs a free mailing list for professional photographers, where copyright matters and licensing are recurrent themes. The website contains much useful information for anyone interested in photography. EPUK is the owner of the Copyright Action site.

DACS are probably best known among photographers for their annual 'Payback' scheme. This distributes income collected for secondary uses including photocopying from books and magazines, or copying for use as an educational resource in school, college or university. You do not have to be a member of DACS to register for this.
The BAJ is a journalists and photographers trade union. It has a copyright solicitor and also offers free legal representation for freelances in claims for unpaid fees.
